" No one ever said moving out and making it on your own was easy, but... Why did you have to get stuck with neighbors like these?" OOC thread is over here!Characters & Rooms:Aradia: Skeletune - 103Sollux: aquafinahoarder - 211Karkat: diamondparagraphs - 203 Vriska: Muta - 208Gamzee: xayners - 203 Special Notes on certain characters: ARADIA: Aradia is forgetful - she could have met your character before and just not recognized them! You can do whatever you'd like with that. Also, she is very inept as far as technology goes. Seriously. She sucks at that stuff. SOLLUX: Although he has been living here for nearly two years, Sollux barely talks to his neighbors. KARKAT: Since he has lived all over the place, any given person in the building can know/remember him, while he may not remember them. Do with that what you will. VRISKA: Unlike some of the others, she always remembers a face, and can easily name every wrong they have done to her since the beginning of time. Bottom line? (literally) Don't fuck with her.
It was that time of year again, the time that had pretty much everyone scrambling to get their books and lives in order. At least for the college age group, that is. Karkat Vantas is a part of said age group. Only in his second year of college, the raven-haired boy is the current youngest of the people staying in the apartment building. It was out of desperation that he selected this rickety structure as his home - a low rent rate is definitely worth the twenty minute bus ride to campus. The main other perk for this low-class teenager is the job he's had since he was fifteen is nearby. Thankfully Subway is pretty understanding when it comes to location transfers, so he's been able to keep a steady income. This is where he was currently, in the last hour of his shift. People just didn't appreciate the work it takes to deal with assholes who can't make a fucking decision before getting to the front of the line. Luckily, Karkat is used to this and deals with it with his great amounts of patience, which is to say none at all. He just keeps his mouth shut and grumbles in the back room when he's on break.

Another day, another town to ride through. Gamzee hung out the window of their tour vehicle smoking a cigarette and just watching the city go by. He had been to so many places this year he lost count after twenty. It as hard to believe he and his band mates got signed a record deal right out of high school. It was just as well for the Capricorn. He had no plans to go to college anyway. Learning things in a classroom just wasn't his thing. Don't get him wrong, being able to learn is a miraculous thing. He just preferred to make the discoveries himself versus it being pounded into his head. He let out another puff of smoke as they group was pulled into a parking lot. "Hey Gamz! You want food? Found a Subway. It's a bit healthier than the usual shit we eat. Figured it'd be a nice change of pace." The tall shaggy-haired male raised his eyebrows as he heard his name being called. Pulling a small tin out of his pocket, he put the cigarette out using the tin before throwing the remains of it away in a small garbage can. "Be there in a minute." He responded getting up and going to the section of the bus he claimed to grab his wallet and cellphone. He took a quick peek in a mirror to check his paint and make sure he hadn't smeared any of it then climbed out of the vehicle and shuffled over to the Subway with the others. Looking around, the placed was empty except for a lone employee. Judging from the look on his face he didn't seem to be happy being the only one there. After this band mates gave their orders, Gamzee waited patiently for the worker to create their orders before giving his own. He decided being the only ones here, he might like to strike up a conversation to pass the time.

Unaware of the fact that these guys were in a band, Karkat treated the lot of them as if they were just another group of assholes. He frowned as he went through their orders - damn, they speak fast as fuck - and more than once he had to tell them to "Wait two goddamned seconds, I'm doing these one at a time." Of course they would come in fifteen minutes before the end of the shift when the restaurant is dead. The rest of them done and paid for, Karkat sighed and moved back to take the last one's order. Clown makeup? Why the hell would someone wear that? His brow wrinkled before he spoke, keeping his face neutral. "So, what do you want?"

Gamzee smiled at the teen when he finally had the youth's undivided attention. "-and a simple motherfucking talking to if you're all kinds of fine with that." He added at the end of his order. The taller male could tell the others were irritating the youth by being rather obnoxious. "You motherfuckers go on ahead and eat, I'll take care of the bill." He said to the group, seeing that the first three sandwiches were already bagged. Once they agreed and left, going to sit outside on patio furniture near the shop, Gamzee turned his attention back to the one currently preparing his meal. "Don't mind them. They don't understand the meaning of settling the fuck down. Only time it's ever quiet is when they're out cold."

Brow wrinkling again, Karkat internally questioned what had this weird clown guy so happy. And what was with how he spoke? All kinds of okay with it? What the actual fuck. He may have had his mouth hanging slightly open at the atrocious grammar as he autonomously worked on the sandwich. But when he sent his friends - family? Who the hell knew with this guy - away, the shorter muttered a quiet "Thanks." He was still questioning the obviously elder male's intentions when he began to speak. "Why do you want to talk to me of all people? I'm just the guy who made your food once in your lifetime."

"Why would a motherfucking job make a difference about what kind of wicked miracles you got up in your head? Just you in here. Why not talk to you - Karbro?" He asked, seeing Karkat's name tag on shirt as he leaned his forearms on the counter by the cash register. He felt the smaller male looked tired as he finished the edible creation. He also thought the looks he was being given were rather cute. Gamzee could tell this teen was a bit different from a lot of people he ran into. He wasn't trying to be overly polite or lie through his teeth about loving his job. This kid had a head full of opinions about the world but what he didn't know was if he had anyone to tell them to.

"Not a lot of people strike a conversation with the people who work at fast food joints like this, that's all I'm saying. My ability to make a decent sandwich is all anyone cares about the second they walk through that door." He paused. "And I'm not your bro, I don't even know your fu-goddamned name." He had been warned multiple times about swearing when on the clock by the manager already, and was able to change his words on the fly. He didn't like the looks this guy was giving him, narrowing his eyes at the man across the counter. "And what's with the makeup, you part of a travelling circus or something?" Not the best way he could have phrased that, but he couldn't bring himself to care. As he waited for a reply, Karkat punched in the order, rust eyes skimming the screen of the register to make sure there were no errors in the order. "And do you want drinks or anything with the subs?"

Gamzee chuckled hearing the sudden switch of words. He found it funny how he had to bite his tongue on what he really wanted to say just to keep up appearances with his job. "I got my motherfucking reasons." He answered in regards to his paint. Seeing how much the group's order cost, he pulled out his wallet and was able to give exact change. "Nah, we got plenty of drinks on our bus. Judging from the time this motherfucking place gets it's darkness on, looks like you're closing up today. You doing anything after?" He inquired. There was just something about the teen that interested him. Usually no one asked him about his face paint since they either knew he was in a band or was too weirded out to ask. I didn't matter anyway, he didn't like talking about it and always avoided the subject when it was brought up. "Name's Gamzee by the way. Now we ain't such motherfucking strangers no more."

Sollux grumbled incoherently, the rustling of the city and the daily traffic making his head throb more. The white noises were getting on his nerves, diverting his attention from his computer for the slightest of moments became the biggest nuisance. A ringing car alarm began piercing though his ears, making him slam his laptop shut. "Jesus fucking Christ, shut your god damn alarm off," He yelled, walking away from the window. There was no point in even trying to get work done; no motivation and a pounding head was a recipe for a boring day. Maybe he'd call his brother and then get drunk and play video games. It sounded like a decent way to start his third year off, but one look in his cabinets said other wise. No booze, and just playing video games without alcohol sounded horribly bland. Downing his second cup of coffee that day, he decided to go out and get some air. Maybe that would help his head.

"That isn't an answer..." Frowning, he took the money and did a quick double check that it was indeed the right amount. Who knew with these weirdos. "If you say so." And there he went agains with the shitty grammar structure in his sentences. Did this asshole never learn to speak properly, or is he just so high off his ass that he can't be bothered? Either way, it took Karkat a second to figure out just what Gamzee was asking. "Yeah, I was just about to close up when you and the flying rat platoon decided they wanted some oh-so-healthy fast food." He hesitated, indecision clear on his face. Should he tell this total fucking stranger that he was free tonight? Well, that's kind of how you make friends, dumbshit, a little voice in the back of his head chimed. As if reading his mind, Gamzee spoke, jarring him from his internal debate. "Name's Gamzee by the way. Now we ain't such motherfucking strangers no more." With a sigh, Karkat relented. "I was just going to go back to my shitty apartment and make sure I have all my books for this semester, so yes, I'm free. Why?"

The Capricorn couldn't help but laugh at the youth's description of his buddies. Truthfully they were pretty decent people but after being on the road all day, it makes one a little rambunctious. "Aww wicked bitchtits!" He said excitedly, unable to contain the grin on his face. "That's good that you're getting your education on. These days not much a motherfucker can do without one. But just thought we could kick back and do some chilling. Been on a bus for all kinds of hours with the same motherfuckers. It's nice to see a fresh face and do some miraculous hanging out with them." He slipped his wallet back in his pocket then took the bag that contained his sandwich. He pulled out his phone to check the time and he smiled as he discovered he took up the rest of Karkat's shift like he wanted to. "Lights out for today. I'll be outside while you finish up here. See ya in a few." Putting the phone back, he waved at the teen then left the shop. He sat down on the sidewalk in front of the business and started to eat his sub, wanting to finish eating before he spent more time with the Cancer.

Vriska sighed deeply, adjusting her posture and leaning back on the stoop railing. She had been out there for almost thirty minutes now, and she hadn't even touched the brand-new pack of Newports in her breast pocket, which was odd. In another twenty minutes, she would have to cross the street and make her way into the bar where she worked, and the thought made her groan internally. As much as she pretended otherwise, she really hated working there. She hated the dim lighting, she hated the smell, the look of it, her wimpy co-worker, the customers... everything. Just thinking about all of that made her want a smoke, and so she reached into her pocket and withdrew the pack, shucking the protective plastic with skilled fingers. The warning sign on the front made her chuckle, as always. Like a smoker didn't know the dangers of smoking. It was like telling a mountain climber to beware of falling. Stupid. She pulled out a cigarette with one hand, her lighter with the other, and lit it, quickly placing it in her mouth and taking a long drag. She craned her head back to watch the smoke spill from her lips and spiral into the darkened sky, disappearing slowly, then all at once.
